Geology is the scientific study of the Earth. We will examine fundamental geologic topics, including: geologic time and evolution, minerals, rock types and their origins, earth’s interior, plate tectonics, volcanoes, earthquakes, faults and folds, weathering and erosion, glaciers, and geologic resources. Where possible, local North Carolina examples of these topics will be used. Although there is new content in the course, some material will be repeated from previous courses. Prerequisite: No previous study of science is required.

Instructor: Richard Wiener (richwiener@gmail.com) has a doctorate in geology with 30 years of technical geoscience experience at ExxonMobil. He has taught geology courses at College for Seniors for six years and previously taught at SUNY Oneonta.
