We will read four of August Wilson’s plays that won major drama awards: Two Trains Running, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, The Piano Lesson and Fences. Through reading, video and small-group and class discussion, participants will gain a deeper appreciation of Wilson’s life and work, his place within the American theater canon and, especially, how he has given voice to the struggles and triumphs of African-Americans.
